Crispy Onion Fritters Recipe | How to make Onion Pakoda at Home

Onion Fritters are crispy and a perfect snack to pair with a cup of Tea.

“Piaji” that is what we call Onion FrittersĀ in Odiya language. It’s a perfect evening snack to go with a glass of Nimbu Chai .My sister always demands whenever she is at home.

These Onion fritters were must when friends at home on weekend evenings… Chai ,Pakoda and a long chitchat !! And there was always a scuffle for the last piece in the plate . Missed those days…

First Heat it well and cool .Then heat it again and fry your fritters. you can use sunflower or rice bran oil if you don’t like mustard oil.

Note :If you are using Mustard oil ,then to get rid of pungency heat it twice.

Instructions
  1. Slice the onions thinly and take them in a mixing bowl.Now add 2 tbsp gram flour ,baking soda,cumin powder,chili powder and mix well.
  2. Add flour little by little sprinkling a little water. The consistency should not be liquid at all.The batter should be thick.
  3. Heat generous amount of mustard oil in a kadai to fry fritters. See note below.
  4. Drop few spoons of batter into the hot oil carefully.Fry at low flame until they are golden brown and done.
  5. Serve hot with any of your favorite sauce.
