Fried Dal Fara Recipe
No-doubt these steamed dumplings are oil-free comfort food , but these fried one is super delicious. It won’t disappoint your guest if you pair them with your evening tea.
Recently I came across these fried Fara at my blogger friend Sangeeta’s page Banaraskakhana , she prepared these out of these steamed faras.
I am very much fascinated by traditional food.I don’t miss a chance of learning a new dish.
Fried Dal Fara Recipe
Use warm water to knead the flour & semolina .It will help to form a soft dough. The semolina adds a texture to the dough.
I have used two types of Dal here . You can add more varieties of your choice. Mostly it is preloaded with Chana and Toor Dal. You need to soak Dal well before using in Dal Fara Recipe.
I would like to share a trick to save soaking time. Use boiling water to soak Dal.It will be done in less time.
You can add more Green Chillies for extra spicy. Steam the dumplings in a steamer. Once it’s done , you need to cool them completely.
This dish can be savoured without frying. I have cut those steamed dumplings into slices . Carefully fried them in oil to make a snack.
You can also shallow fry the steamed Faras adding some tadka .Add Mustard seeds, Green chillies to the oil. That will make another variation. Serve with a Tomato Garlic Chutney or eat as it is.
You can try variation of filling adding garlic or ginger to it. Also you can only use chana-dal in preparing the filling. Choice is completely yours 🙂
Serve them immediately else you may loose the crunchiness if kept for next day.

Awesome recipe. My one neighborhood Aunty used to prepare these faras and everytime she made, she always used to give 1 bowl of it as I love this completely. It’s seems simple, but I know execution requires precision and refinement. Thanks for sharing. Ur faras look so tempting ??
Thanks a lot dear..you r right..it takes time to prepare any traditional dish ,but it always a worthy try.
Ours being a Banarasi household ..this amazingly humble dish is a regular in our kitchen. The one we make at our home looks like a larger version of “gujiya”..it’s easier to stuff the Chana daal that way. When it comes to adding a twist I cut them similar to how you have sliced it..then in a frying pan I add mustard, red chilly, curry leaves and then fry the sliced fara in it. Tastes awesome with a tamatar dhania chutney or a tamatar-dhaniya-garlic chutney
That sounds wonderful Rohit ..What i did ,I added these dumplings to piping hot rasam and had it in my lunch today 😉
These faras are very interesting! I had never heard of them before! Thanks for sharing it here with us at Fiesta Friday!
