What is Okra?

Okra is a flowering plant that is also known as ladies’ fingers or bhindi. The scientific name of this interesting plant is Abelmoschus esculentus.

Benefits Of Okra

Okra is rich in Vitamin A and flavonoid anti-oxidants like beta-carotene and lutein. Those help to protect us from lung and oral cavity cancers. Okra is very low in calories and has no saturated fats.

Okra contains mucilaginous fiber that helps in digestion. This helps to prevent digestive issues like bloating, cramping, constipation. Pottasium, present in Okra helps to balance sodium and maintains a proper fluid balance in the body. It helps in lowering blood pressure.

Tips for Crispy Bhindi Raita Recipe

This is a super easy recipe to make in just 10 minutes. Pair with Steamed Rice, Chicken Curry on your lunch table, you won’t be disappointed at all. You can fry Okra cutting into small pieces or as a whole. I love doing it in both ways.

The only thing you need to do is to fry Okra with a little salt and turmeric. Then you have to mix them to Curd. Give a tadka to it and it’s ready.

You can also use curry leaves in tadka or garnish with fresh coriander leaves at the end. I have not used curry leaves in the recipe.

Also, I have added roasted cumin powder that I make at home. Just dry roast Cumin seeds at low temperature for 30 seconds. Cool it and grind it to a coarse powder. This makes the Okra Raita super delicious.

Hope you enjoy making this dish at home. Let’s go to the recipe.
